I admit it; I’m obsessed with airport pet relief areas. Having easy access to a place for your dog to go potty can make all the difference when traveling. Airside (past security) pet relief areas are a godsend when you have a tight connection or a delayed flight. Unfortunately, these inside potty areas are often cramped and smelly. This is not an issue at the JFK T5 Wooftop, a rooftop pet relief area at Terminal 5 of New York’s John F Kennedy Airport.
JFK T5 Wooftop
The T5 Wooftop pet relief area is a breath of fresh air. The outdoor park has a spacious fenced area covered in synthetic grass where dogs can safely be off-leash. It’s a comfortable environment for pups to exercise or go potty before a flight. There is plentiful seating where humans can relax as well. The Wooftop is across from gate 28 in JFK Terminal 5. Just follow the signs for T5 Rooftop.
Other T5 Pet Relief Areas
Have a picky pup who won’t go on synthetic grass? There is an additional pet relief area outside Terminal 5 at JFK. It has a little grass but is primarily dirt. To reach it, you need to go out through airport security. Exit the baggage claim and walk down the sidewalk to the right. This curbside pet relief area also serves guests at the TWA Hotel. Louie begrudgingly used it when we spent the night there but definitely preferred the JFK T5 Wooftop.

One of my bucket list goals is to go to NYC with my pups and now I know where the relief areas are!!!! Thank you for the tips.
OMG this is the mecca of airport pet relief stations ha! Despite going to JFK a million times, I’ve never been to this spot! I have to go next time. It’s awesome! It beats all of the tiny closet fake grass relief stations that most airports have.
Thank you for telling me about this as this is one of my biggest worries if I decide to fly with Layla so it is good to know – always love your travel tips
I have yet to take my pup on a plane. One of these days I will, and boy, wouldn’t it be nice if all airports were like JFK?
I used to bring my Papillon on planes with me, but never encountered any potty spaces quite this nice. She would have loved such a nice relief area!
I had no idea this was a thing! Boy they have really up’s their game since I traveled in 2004.
