I first learned of the canine-centric, Hotel Grimming – Dogs & Friends, from a German pet travel site. When I decided to drive through Rauris, Austria, last Spring, I was excited to include it in my itinerary. The hotel sent me a concerned email in advance to make sure that I was planning to bring a dog.
Choose a Pug, Labrador or Mastiff Room
Even if you aren’t traveling with a pup, the Hotel Grimming is a comfortable and welcoming place. There are 28 rooms in three doggie size categories; Pug, Labrador, and Mastiff. All rooms have free wifi and cable TV. Nightly room rates range from 92 to 113 euro per person and include parking.
All-Inclusive for Dogs & Friends
There is no lift at Hotel Grimming – Dogs & Friends, but you can pack lightly for your stay. The hotel provides almost everything you need for your pup; a comfy dog bed, bowls, treats, even a choice of 130 different varieties of wet food and kibble.
Rates at Hotel Grimming – Dogs & Friends include buffet breakfast and four-course dinner. I was appreciative of the English menu translation that the staff provided. The Langreiter family, who run the hotel, all speak some English. The property has been in the family for 240 years, and the Langreitners clearly take pride in the place.
Dog Friendly Facilities
As you would expect, Dogs are welcome to join you in the dining room at Hotel Grimming. Energetic pups also have access to a private 48,000 square foot fenced meadow a short walk away. The meadow features a swimming pond and professional agility course. The hotel even has a convenient, “Hunde Toilett” across the street.
If your travels take you and your dog to the Salzburger region of Austria, I recommend spending a few nights at the Hotel Grimming. The hotel is located in the pretty Alpine village of Rauris inside Hohe Tauern National Park. It makes a great stopping off point between Germany and Italy.
