Newport Beach, California, offers a little something for everyone. The city has more than eight miles of beach as well as dog friendly Balboa Island and Village. Leashed dogs are only allowed on the beaches before 10 am or after 4:30 pm, but there are many dog friendly Newport Beach activities you can enjoy anytime. Here are some of our favorites.
Fashion Island:
Louie and I love to wander around the upscale shops of Fashion Island in Newport Beach. Almost every shop in the open-air shopping center is dog friendly. When in doubt, just ask the staff. Most of the restaurants with patios will also allow you to dine outside with your pup. I especially like True Food Kitchen and Bloomingdale’s 59th & Lex Cafe.
Dog Friendly Newport Harbor Cruise:
Take a drive along the sandy peninsula to the Fun Zone area of Balboa Village. Here you can hop aboard a dog friendly Newport Harbor cruise the Fun Zone Boat Company. Their 90-minute narrated tour costs $19 for adults but is free for dogs. The Fun Zone Boat Company also offers several shorter cruises. During the 90-minute trip, we saw sea lions, multimillion-dollar celebrity homes, and even the beach where they filmed Gilligan’s Island.
Dog Friendly Balboa Island:
From the Fun Zone area, you can also take a quick ride on the auto ferry to Balboa Island. The island in Newport Harbor has a real old-time California feel to it. Quaint cottages sit side by side with artsy boutiques and cafes. Many of the stores on Balboa Island are allow dogs. Your pup will also find a plentiful supply of drinking water waiting for them along the sidewalk. Balboa Island is one of the most dog friendly areas of Newport Beach.
