In Memory of Paulchen Superbully:
Paulchen was one of our first international French Bulldog friends on Facebook. That online connection eventually turned into a real-life friendship with his parents, Ute and Dieter. It was because of Paulchen and his parents that I decided to travel to Germany with my 14-year-old Frenchie, Tara. That trip inspired me to start writing about dog friendly travel. Without Paulchen, this blog would not exist.
President Paulchen & the Sons of Frenchies
Without Paulchen there would be no Sons of Frenchies, the doggy “gang” that raises money for French Bulldogs in need. The Sons of Frenchies not only assist dogs, but they also provide a supportive community for the humans who love them. It is because of this fantastic group that Louis and I travel to the Netherlands every fall for the Sons of Frenchies BFF Party.
Dog Friendly Eifel Holiday
After the 2018 Sons of Frenchies Party, Louis I had a chance to take a short holiday with Paulchen and his mom Ute. We spent a weekend at the beautiful Der Seehof Hotel in Germany’s dog friendly Eifel National Park. Paulchen was such a gentleman, curling up quietly on the floor while we ate at the restaurant. Unlike Louis, who whined until I put him on a chair.
During the weekend we toured the beautiful village of Monchau, had coffee at a small castle, and got scolded at the Kommern Open Air Museum. I think the attraction Louis and Paulchen liked best was the dog friendly Hellenthal wildlife park. The boys got to “meet” deer, donkeys, alpacas, and more. Paulchen was so gentle while sniffing the fencing to learn more about each new species.
Ruhe in Frieden Mein Freund
Louis and I were looking forward to visiting Austria and Italy with Paulchen and his family this Spring. Then came the terrible news that had Paulchen passed away very suddenly last week. I’m so grateful for the time I got to spend with Paulchen at his home and recently in the dog friendly Eifel National Park. Rest in peace President Paulchen; you were indeed a Superbully.
