Belgium is one of the most
Dinant:
The picturesque city of Dinant is a perfect jumping off point for the Ardennes. Start with a visit to the imposing dog friendly Citadel de Dinant. For just €14.00 per adult, you can buy a 3 in 1 ticket that includes admission to the Citadel, round-trip cable car ride down the mountain and a 45-minute cruise on the Meuse river. Leashed dogs are allowed for no additional charge.Â
After some time spent high atop the Citadel de Dinant consider heading underground to explore the region’s famous caves. Several of the most popular cave attractions in the Ardennes allow dogs on guided tours. You don’t need any special gear, but I recommend you wear a warm jacket and sturdy shoes.
Han-sur-Lesse:
I chose to visit the dog friendly Caves of Han with Louis due to its ease of accessibility.  From the ticket office in Han-sur-Lesse, a vintage train transports you to the mouth of the cave. Here you can join a tour in either French or Dutch. Don’t worry if you don’t speak either, most guides can give you the highlights in English or you can just follow along and enjoy the spectacular rock formations. Â
Han-sur-Lesse is a lovely little dog friendly Ardennes village. Louis and I spent the night there at the Hotel Grenier des Grottes directly across the street from the caves. Pets are welcome for a nominal fee. Louis also joined me in the breakfast room before we headed off to our next destination.
